Development of BSC Key Performance Indicator(KPI) in Emergency Medical Center

Abstract
A research in evaluating performance of emergency medical center with application of Balanced Score Card (BSC) is in the beginning stage. The purpose of this study is to develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for emergency medical centers adopting BSC. Through literature review and brown-bag meetings with staffs at K hospital, the study refined 30 KPIs for emergency medical center. The study confirmed the validity of KPIs by analyzing 232 copies of questionnaires collected for the analysis. Based on the analysis, 26 KPIs has been finally chosen, 5 KPIs in financial, 7 KPIs in customers, 8 KPIs in learning & growth, and 6 KPIs in internal business processes perspective. Also, the study showed KPIs with higher weights in each dimension of BSC. Finally, the study tested a statistical significance of hypothesized relationship through an structural equations model by utilizing the statistical package of AMOS 7.0. 13 among 22 hypothesized relationship were accepted. The study proposes an effective performance indicators for professionals at emergency medical centers and it is expected to be likely to have positive influence upon enhancing services of the center.
